Seems like it solves different pains for different people... for some (actually seems like a bunch) it's just a stage to let their voice be heard. One giant conversation. I don’t find that aspect to compelling other than it can be oddly entertaining.

I like the fact that I can have a place where I can communicate from all my devices (including mobile via SMS) w/ groups of friends. I can’t do that any other way now – that is a pain (I don’t have and don’t want email on my phone and email on the phone does not have anywhere near the penetration as SMS). I can use the command set to hush users and that solves another pain for me – ie, I like to be left alone at times. I can also just let the family get to me and solve yet another pain – yep, they could call, but it sure is nice to get a note from Emma saying she “loves poppy”.

And the extra special bonus is the API (and very active user base)... throw in some additional microformats/commands (location for example) and you can do some cool things.

What pain is this solving? i've never quite gotten twitter. seems like it would be useful if it could connect you with others doing similar things in similar time frames. does it do that yet?
