BarCampBoulder March ‘07

March 31st, 2007

BarCamp Boulder Spring ’07 has come and gone.  This one almost didn’t happen.  All the organizers were insanely busy leading up to the event.  One is moving, one is trying to raise money, one just raised money, and my excuse was I had been ridiculously sick and barely functioning.  Not as good as the others – but it is what it is.

But somehow we made it happen and it was a really good time.  We saw some old faces from BarCamp’s past (even DR wass in the house)and some new faces.  And just like previous BarCamps we had interesting, challenging, intriguing, and educational conversations.  My personal favorite topic of the day was distributed identity led by Ashish Jain from Ping Identity.  We talked about the ins/out and pluses/minuses of Open ID and InfoCard.  Great stuff.  The session on microformats and RDF was very cool too.  My favorite event of the day was the Half Baked game – that was sweet!

Thanks to Dan Lurie and the one and only Joe Pezzillo for being joint maestros and guiding us along, thanks to Bill Flinchbaugh for being insanely helpful (making coffee, cleaning, tending bar, you name it).  Thanks to Jeremy Hinegardner from Collective Intellect for treating us to lunch and the projector use.  Thanks to my man Danny Newman for inspiring us all to think big and for the cool Pocket Fuzz swag.  And extra special thanks to my friend and fantastic person Andrew Hyde for getting us an amazing space.  There were some interesting side channels and hoops Andrew had to deal with to make it happen.  Andrew you are the man for making this possible.

UPDATE: I almost forgot Neal McBurnett.  The man oozes so much intelligence that I think he may have put a spell over me.  Anyway, Neal busted his tail trying to find space as well and had some great backup locations all lined up in case the mac daddy 4th story diggs on Pearl fell through.

Now, I gotta run and apply the potato launcher to Tech Stars… for all you slackers out there you better apply soon.  The deadline for Tech Stars is just hours away.  I bet if you are a few minutes late David may still let you in :)
