Anyone Diggin’ Digg
October 25th, 2006
Rumors are floating around that digg is in acquisition talks. I love digg – I love diggnation even more, btw.
But man, I gotta tell ya if I am a potential acquirer, digg doesn’t look so hot sitting next to YT – YT has set the bar (and price tag)Â pretty high.

Reddit, a Y Combinator company, has proven that this is a cheap technology to build. Digg also appears to be compromised to a large degree, according to the rumors.
These companies are really being acquired for their brands, not their users. The value really depends more on what the acquirer can do with the brand and mindshare than with the technology, it seems. Otherwise, these prices would not be justified. They’re not really paying for users (although they’ll justify it that way to themselves).

makes sense… but certainly the value of a brand and the number of users are complimentary.
interesting stuff… i hope things go well for kevin rose; don’t know him personally but he seems like a really good guy.
